Short note

How to brief
a mentalist

The answer in one paragraph

What I like to know, and when

For a first reply, all I need is the date, the venue, the number of guests and what you have in mind. Once the booking is confirmed, the practical side follows: the running order with times, which language the guests speak, when I need to be there, parking, an on-site contact with a phone number, and the dress code.

The evening

Why I ask for the running order

The full running order shows me when guests have time and attention to spare: more during the reception than at the end of an open bar. I'd also like to know what's being celebrated or launched, because that's what people will be talking about that evening. If guests switch between Dutch and English, I'll switch with them, but it helps to know beforehand.

On the day

What I need in practice

I arrive at least half an hour before the start. At that point the most useful thing is the on-site contact's number: that's who I ring if I'm standing at a locked door. For Walking, all I need is somewhere private to leave my bag. For Seated, I need eight chairs in a quieter spot. I bring the table, or we sort it out beforehand.

In closing

Start with what you know

If you're planning an event, email me what you already know. I'll ask about the rest once the booking is confirmed.

Frequently asked questions

What information should you give a mentalist?

For a first reply, all I need is the date, the venue, the number of guests and what you have in mind. Once the booking is confirmed, the practical side follows: the running order with times, which language the guests speak, when I need to be there, parking, an on-site contact with a phone number, and the dress code.

Why does a mentalist want to see the running order?

The full running order shows me when guests have time and attention to spare: more during the reception than at the end of an open bar. I'd also like to know what's being celebrated or launched, because that's what people will be talking about that evening.

What does a mentalist need at the venue?

I arrive at least half an hour before the start. For Walking, all I need is somewhere private to leave my bag. For Seated, I need eight chairs in a quieter spot. I bring the table, or we sort it out beforehand.
